Granny talk

Like many before me, I have been charmed by Lucy's wonderful blog Attic 24. I love the way she uses colours and makes crochet Granny squares contemporary and cheerful.

The gorgeous weather we had here for a few days made me want to bottle up some of this sunshine for the long Winter months. I went and bought a whole lot of bright, cheap and cheerful acrylic yarn (17 in total) to make myself a Granny stripes blanket ready (I hope) for the first chilly days of Autumn.

I love picking up the colours at random, concentrating on one stripe at a time, not knowing what will come next...

I can already picture myself curled up in this blanket of sunshine with a good book and a hot cup of coffee and the music of the falling rain in the background... Looovely!....
 

Summer and crochet go well together...

 

I think there is something than links Summer and warm weather with crochet, in my mind anyway... I put my knitting needles aside when the air smells sweet with the scent of the flowers and I yearn to go outside.

It does not take much to send me looking for my hook...

... and I'm  on my way! Don't ask me what I'm doing because I am still not quite sure myself. But I love mixing all those glorious colours together and it makes me happy.

For the moment it's enough for me...

The right side of Winter...

We must be on the "right" side of Winter because the new Rowan magazine 47 is here! 

I don't know about you, but I always look forward to knitting Spring/Summer knits in the Winter...  Maybe it is all those grey skies that make me yearn for bright colours or maybe I just  want to swap all those layers of clothes for light and airy cotton tops. The truth is, although I have quite a collection of knitting books and lovely patterns which I'll make one day, I can't resist the call of the new season's patterns...

This year, Rowan is also launching its first ever brochure entirely dedicated to crochet. Summer Crochet features 12 designs by Marie Wallin. Unfortunately, my crochet skills are very poor! I am OK for Granny squares but when it comes to crocheting a straight line, I am hopeless!... They say "practise makes perfect", so maybe I should just do that because I would love to be able to make myself a crochet top for the Summer...
