I have finally found the "energy" to thread beads on the yarn and Martha's back is well on its way. The gentle rhythm of 4 ply knitting has slowed me down. When I am not at work and the children are at school, I like to alternate knitting with reading. Unfortunately I can't do both simultaneously!... It is frustrating as I can remember my mother doing just that with perfect ease. She would read book after book whilst her needles were clicking happily away...
I am in a detective story phase at the moment and who better than the "Queen of Crime" to entertain me? I must have read almost all of her books at one time, but it doesn't matter with crime novels as after a while you don't remember who "did it" anyway...
Some might argue that Agatha Christie's novels are old-fashioned and it is true but it is exactly what I need now. They go perfectly well with the slow rhythm of knitting and, like Miss Marple, I can pause in the middle of a row and say to myself : " Now, why did the maid leave the tray of scones in the hall???..."
Agatha and Martha sound like a very cosy lot of people to spend a day with. Can I come around for tea! I love your Martha and must get some of my knitting out of the way so that I can cast something lovely like that on. x

My Martha (beadless) is still UFO status, I'm afraid! Yours will be gorgeous. Try some plain knitting with your book propped up on one of those book stands, it really makes stocking stitch much less boring!

The silvery beads really look so good in your brown martha. Scones in the hall - ever since I was a kid, I've found food in books fascinating.

Francois, You could download the books see the link above and knit while listening to an ipod. Not the old fashion way but good for multi- tasking with tea and scones included. Which of her books is your favorite?

Oh I too desperately wish I could read while I knit. My book piles invariably increase in size whenever I'm the middle of a spurt of intense knitting. :P
The Miss Marple mysteries are wonderful and my favorite among Agatha Christie's works. Have you tried reading Dorthy Sayers? Her Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane are just as delightful.
