Happy New Year !

Christmas  is over and it was a great one !  Now I would  like to go back to some peace and tranquillity...    No chance of that,   I am afraid!   For the children,  it is still Christmas for the duration of their holidays which finish on January 3rd.  So  I let myself get carried away by the flow of the festivities...

Today we went to see The Chronicles of Narnia,  "en famille",  at the cinema  and I loved every minute of it.   A real delight....

On the knitting front,  the news are poor.   What can I do but wait until peace returns in my home.

One Harry Potter scarf...

The Harry Potter scarf  in the Gryffindor's colors is done and dusted.  Huge sigh of relief from me because even so it was a quick and easy project,  I must confess I don't like knitting scarves...   But I have done my duty as a Mum and my son loves it.  Next will be the HP scarf in the Slytherin's colors for my daughter when I get hold of some suitable green yarn (I already have got the silver/grey one).

Whilst knitting this scarf,  I thought of my Mum who, many years ago, was doing for me the very same thing I am doing now for my children...  The difference being that I was a Teen in the days when you weren't cool if you didn't trip over your own scarf  ! (I let you  figure out when was the "when" I am talking about...)  and for the first time,  I can understand how she must have felt...  Thanks Mum !  (and I had two brothers who naturally wanted the same things...)

Anyway,  I really enjoyed doing the fringe bit and I suppose it is something...

Now,  I would like to concentrate on finishing Air.  I am half way through the collar and then it will be one sleeve to go.  Maybe my first FO for the New Year???

Sweet Christmas...

Like most families we have our own Christmas traditions.  One of them is our  Xmas baking day.

Every year till now,  we put the Christmas CD on and the children make and  decorate gingerbread biscuits with their cousin,  whilst my sister-in-law and  I make the mincepies.

This year the children have decided not to make biscuits,  but opted for festive fairy cakes and green and red jam tarts;  Kathleen will make her delicious mincepies and I will have a go at cranberry muffins...  Looks like it will be a sweet Christmas...

On the knitting front,  the progress are slow but I will get there... eventually,  when all the frantic life slows down a little...

Christmas time...

I haven't done much knitting these last few days,  because as you know,  of course,  Christmas isn't far away and I have just woken up!!!  Not only there are cards to write (still not done),  presents to buy (managed a few) and  to wrap up nicely (not done),  but schools have also started a program of activities so full that my head is spinning.  On top of that my son had to work hard for his 3rd grade clarinet music exam coming up this week  (meaning:  he did all the practising and I did all the nagging ,  interrogating under the lamp and encouragements...).  Why is Christmas time so busy???

So with all this excitement,  Air hasn't progressed a stitch...  But now that my scarf is done,  I was nicely reminded that the Gryffindor scarf should be next on the list...  So I had to cast on,  and it is now resting in my Evening Knitting Basket...   If you expect authenticity, you will be disappointed but my son is pleased with it and it's what matters.  The chances of me finishing Air before Christmas seem pretty slim...

PS:   Christian  passed his exam  and I am a proud Mum.  Now we can rest till the New Year (I think...) before we start all over again for the next one...

Leaf Scarf...

My Leaf Scarf is finally finished...   The picture is not brilliant but it's the best I could do at this time of night.

It took me longer than anticipated as I run out of wool at the beginning of the last leaf.  The pattern called for one ball of Felted Tweed but it didn't make it...   Rowan must have been mean on the yarn measurement the day this ball was made...

So it is one FO out of the way for me...   While waiting for the second ball of felted Tweed, I made some progress on Air.  The first sleeve is finished,  I blocked and sewed the back and fronts  (I am a follower of the "sew as you go" method) and even managed to knit and sew one of the pocket flaps.  It is starting to take shape.  If it wasn't for the prospect of knitting another sleeve,  I would be dancing by now...
