Last week of term is always a busy week. Monday was Music Evening at the school and we went to see my son perform in the orchestra. Yesterday was Sport Day and a great day it was. My daughter fell flat on her face, after the finishing line ("Thank Goodness!" said the wicked mother) and came home with a badly grazed hip but happy to secure the second place. My son (I discovered on the day, to my horror) had a huge hole in his trainers and you could hear flapping down the race track... He swears this is what slowed him down!
On the knitting front, nothing to show but I haven't been completely idle. I had started the Phildar cardi and nearly finished the back before deciding to frog it. This is one of those patterns you like on the picture but the more you knit the less you feel you're going to wear it. So I thought I should stop waisting my time and go on to other things. I can always use the wool (which I like) for another winter project.
I have started Chicago's second front. Only one more sleeve to go... Maybe will I finish it before my holidays and take the little flowers to knit away with me? Now, that's a nice thought...
I popped in my local bookshop on Monday and I came out with this:
The knitting books for children were second hand and I thought they were a nice addition to my knitting library for when children pop up in my viscinity. There are quite a few original and colourful designs which are not dated.
The Vintage Knit one, which I have wanted for a long time was half price, so now it's MINE. I quite fancy making an evening version of the camisole on the cover (maybe for Christmas?) along with the bolero and the beaded short sleeve top (you would think I would be sick of beads by now...).
I love vintage patterns and I know, from reading other blogs, that I am not the only one... Wouldn't it be nice, one day, to have a "Retro knit" knitalong? I have been looking at this pattern from Yesterknits for some time because I am intrigued at the way the cross over is made.
I thought, if I changed the sleeves a bit it would be quite an acceptable design for todays world. What says you?
I love that Yesterknits site - I have got one of their free patterns, I think it is called evening bolero or something and I'm dying to knit it - I was thinking of doing it in a really brightly coloured yarn for the winter to brighten things up a bit. I think that cross over top is gorgeous - you should deinfately do it - if you use modern yarns and as you say alter the sleeves slightly - it will look fabulous - very glamorous indeed. If you do start a vintage knitalong let me know, I'll definately join in - as long as I can finish a couple of my current six projects on the go first !

A Retro-KAL sounds great - I'd definitely be up for that! :)
And you bought Vintage Knits!! I've been tempted with that book for ages now but I have promised myself that I won't buy any more pattern books until I have finished at least two of my WIPs and pipeline projects...

It's lovely Francoise. You could change the sleeves, make them less puffy at the top, quite easily, I imagine. Not sure if I'd be up for a KAL at the moment, need to finish a few things, but I just know that loads of people would be interested!

I have the Vintage knits too... and the yarn to make the one on the cover. One of these days. I love the vintage knits patterns, they really are gorgeous and women had the most amazing waists in those days...

Like the idea of a Retro Knit! One could say tht many of my knits are retro - it's been a long time since I started some of them....
Chamomile looks great - have you worn it a lot?

that crossover sweater is lovely - it reminds me a bit of an orange crossover top in this summer's Rebecca, only that is a sleeveless version.
