New Year... New project...
First of all, I wish you all a Happy New Year!...
The children went back to school yesterday and the house is quiet again during the day time. The end of the year festivities are such a busy time that it is somewhat difficult to squeeze a few rows of knitting...
I had planned to start the year with Lisette but after knitting the back, I wasn't happy with the way the fabric curled back at the edges and bulged where the decreases and increases were, so I decided to quit before it was too late. I had bought some Rowan 4ply Soft in a gorgeous new shade called Malachite and was determined to use it...
Inspired by Charlotte , but too poor to purchase the kit, I remembered seeing similar stitches on a multi-coloured top by Sarah Dallas in Vintage Style and Vintage Knits.
After a few trials and errors, it turned out that the stitch pattern is the same. So I will have a go at making a similar version... I am knitting it straight instead of fitted, because, to begin with, I couldn't work out how to decrease and increase within the lace pattern... Now, I don't have the courage and energy to start all over again! Let's hope I manage to produce something wearable...

Happy New Year to you too!! It's a bit hard to see the pattern in the knitting but I am glad it worked out well the second time. Here, it is too hot to knit, we are having unprecedented hot weather, over 30* almost every day and 47* on the mainland. I yearn for Autumn!!!

Happy New Year! I love the stitch pattern of your new sweater. I've also been coveting the Charlotte kit (among many other items on the site) but too am finding it a bit too dear to purchase...sigh. I'm looking forward to watching your version progress!

It´s so very sad that you are not really satisfied and happy with Lisette. Are you using the same yarn for Charlotte now? It never occured to me that this pattern is the same than in the SD book, you definitely have a much more better eye for designs than I have. And for the side shaping - I know you like it a lot but I have seen some really lovely designs of Louisa Harding and she hardly ever makes the shaping, so I am sure your Charlotte will be lovely, too.

It's a pity that Lisette didn't turn out well. Lisette happens to be one of the designs I like too. But it's better to listen to your inner voice and quit if it's not working out. Hope you'll have better luck with Charlotte. I know which pattern in SD's Vintage Style you're talking about, because I also thought that the stitch pattern is very similar. Don't worry about side shaping. I have a sweater with a similar wavy stitch pattern and I find it to be very stretchy, so if you knit it a little snug, you'll end up with some shaping anyways.
